Subjects you need
To apply to any Cambridge College for Economics you need an A level or IB Higher Level (or the equivalent) in Mathematics. If you study the IB, Cambridge asks for Analysis and Approaches for this course; if that is not an option at your school, contact your shortlisted Colleges for advice.
College offers
Cambridge lists Clare, Downing, Fitzwilliam, Girton, Hughes Hall, St Edmund's, Trinity and Wolfson as Colleges that usually set offers at the minimum offer level, and says they may sometimes ask for higher grades or an A* in a particular subject. Other Colleges have extra subject requirements and/or set extra requirements for most or all offers, so check the College websites. Some Colleges usually make IB offers above the minimum offer level.
The TMUA
All Economics applicants must take the TMUA. UAT-UK says applicants to the University of Cambridge or the University of Oxford must sit the test in October, with exceptions for mature applicants to a mature college with a January deadline. The October 2026 window was 12th to 16th October. The TMUA has two papers of 20 multiple-choice questions, 75 minutes each, with no calculator.
Cambridge adds: "You won't usually be asked to submit examples of written work."
Applicant numbers
Cambridge's course page gives these figures for the 2025 cycle: 10 applications per place, and 164 accepted.
